I'm a Shadowhunter in my Dreams

Back in the Christmas sales I got the Mortal Instruments book set, yes years later than everyone else but like all those before me I have fallen for the series as bad as Simon fell for Clary (cute but tragic). Demon hunters, werewolf's, vampires, fairy's and so much more, these books take you into a whole new world built by the incredibly talented Cassandra Claire (Judith Rumelt).
A lot of people would be familiar with the film City of Bones but unknown to most, there is actually an online/tv series too and boy did I binge watch all of Season 1 and 2 (the good thing about joining a series late is the fact you don't have to wait for episodes they're all there).
To really sell you guys on this series and really understanding my love for it I'll give you a bit more info on the story (even thought he majority of people probably already know all about it).
Cute, pretty little Clary Fray what could really go wrong with her mundane life in Brooklyn with her best friend Simon, her over-protective mum and her possibly boyfriend Luke. Well it turns out Clary is not a mundane after all and only really learns what a mundane is when she finds out there's a whole other world out there where her and her mum are shadowhunters, people who kill and hunt demons and the then there's the downworlders, vampires (ohhh Raphel), faires, werewolfes (Luke) and more. From then on Clary finds out who she really is and on the way learns a heck of a lot of things.
  Obviously the story lines are amazing but I think its how incredible the actors play the characters that really sells the series for me. Take the majestic Magnus Bane played by Harry Shum Jr. (totally straight and actually married to a woman in real life). Totally convinced that the character we see is extravagantly dressed,  out-goingly gay and produces sparkingly blue magic from his fingertips (okay I'm not selling this series that well but trust me here). You just can't help but feel the realness of the story's behind each character and that is truly what you want from a series isn't it? To not be able to book down a book till its finished or complete a whole season in two days.
Defiantly a series for Vampire Diaries fans or something completely different, give it a go you defiantly won't be disappointed or I shall willingly go before the Silent Brothers for a trail.

The Case of Beasts

By this stage everyone knows I'm a hardcore Potterhead, and along with the rest of you I was so excited getting a glimpse into the Wizarding world again when Fantastic Beasts and Where To find Them was released. Along with the movie they brought out some really beautiful and interesting books and because i have one amazing boyfriend, I got my hands on the incredible Case of Beasts.

Anyone who has seen the movie or read the books knows about Newt's case and I think this is beautifully incorporated into the book desgin filled with pull out information sheets, fact files and posters including wanted posters of Newt and Tina and a MACUSA map. 

I won't spoil the book, (merely tempt you into buying it) *not so evil laugh* with some of the many pull out facts and really cool merchandise as you get one of the leaflets the New Salem Philanthropic society hand out in the film and Tina's MACUSA ID card.

One of my favorite pieces comes on the last piece, a wand permit form that you can actually fill out. 

As with everything Wizarding World, this book is magical in many ways. 

Bookstagram

I have become addicted to following bookstagram people on Instragram who daily upload pictures of their 'shelfies' and being a book lover and someone who thinks organizing by colour is simply genius I got on board and have organised my own books into little categories.

My animal books are first on the shelf as they'r he main ones I use. After putting them in colour order I placed some of my animal ornaments around the books to emphasize this is the Animal Section. 

Although this is a mixture of books I do like this section as I love dark mysterious looking things and I think this shelf has got this. I kept my favourite books the Morganville Vampire series in order along with a Charles Dickson collection then the rest are random books.

I was worried about this looking a bit cultured as I tried to capture the Harry Potter shelf that many Bookstgram accounts have. It obviously includes the series but also any Potter memorabilia I have including posters and letters  I made, my wand and my little Ron vinyl Pop figure.

I also put my potion bottles that I collected and was given on this shelf as it adds to the Harry Potter theme.

 

Lastly my recipe books which annoyingly I just noticed aren't in colour order but this shelf is an issue as short girl problems come into play when trying to reach this shelf as it is so perhaps I will let the colour order rest for this shelf. 

Since You've Been Gone

When I heard about Morgan Matson's Since You've been Gone I knew instantly I would love this book and was the perfect Summer read last Summer. The story is about two best friends, one goes away and leaves a to do list for the other to complete. The idea of the list is to make Emily (the main character) go outside her comfort zone and do things she's always been afraid to do. I liked the idea because I'm one to write up a good bucketlist but I am always putting them off saying I'l get round to it some day, but here the idea is to just go for it and live while your young.

Since my best friend moved away we have been writing constantly so I sent her this book along with a list of her own to complete. I loved the idea that it would get her to step out of her comfort zone and live her life to the fullest...also while having some fun. Since then we have been sending each other lists of things to experience and ridiculous things like 'pretend your a robot'. We send our lists in a little green pouch I had so we both know when we see it what to expect and also we add the quote from the book which Emily's friend sends to her, "when you have completed this list, come find me and tell me all about it". I truly love the idea of this story and it has brought me and my bestie even closer.

The dreaded pouch.. when you see this you never know the tasks you have to complete.

Blogtober Day 16: New Reads

Autumn is well and truly here (currently pouring rain and thunder) and I love nothing more than curling up with a hot drink and a good book on these cold evenings. After recently finding the most amazing library (Co.Sligo library) I have been getting a lot of books out and reading them on end until I need to go get the next ones in the series. If you grew up in  the country and the local library consists of old school books and donations you would agree with me that this library is amazing. Not only is it like stepping into Hogwarts (it's an old church refurbished) they have the most recent and in-demand books. Okay enough of my nerdy love for a library, on to telling you about some of my favorite books I've been reading lately.

Raised by Wolves: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This is a perfect book for teens but be warned don't read it before bed because like me you will not be able to put it down and be up till 3am. It's dramatic moment after dramatic moment and just an all rounder thriller. There is two more books in the series I have yet to read them and can not wait to find out what happens to Bryn, a human girl who's parents were attacked and killed by a rabid werewolf so she was then brought up in a Werewolf pack.














Solitaire: Alice Oseman

This is a brilliant fun read written by a Young teen for Young teens. As you can see it is NOT a love story according to Tori, a girl who's had a tough year but now there's somethings to keep her interested. Like Solitaire. And new boy Micheal Holden. This is purely one of those good reads with the feel-good factor and keeps you on edge to find out who's behind Solitaire, a prank group targeting Tori's school.














Knowing me knowing you: Helen Bailey

You said that whilst singing right??
If your thinking isn't that the name of an Abba song? Yes you are right and Channy would prefer if you never heard of Abba or Bjorn At The Beach, her parent's Abba tribute band. Channy is the complete opposite to her Abba loving parents and turns out there is a reason for this but when Channy goes in search of the truth all hell breaks loose.  Again this is a great little fun and real dramatic twist book.










House of Night Series: P.C and Kristin Cast

No Second Chance: Harlan Coben

This is a real thriller. Marc wakes up after being shot to find his Wife killed and baby missing. Follow on the incredible journey he takes to find his little girl Tara, from him being the main suspect to taking the help of his ex and beyond, this story has many twists and just when you think you know who has Tara, another suspect comes on scene.














The Look: Sophia Bennett

Ted isn't the name you would be thinking of when you think of a model and TO Ted she isn't the kind of girl who wants to be a model but when she is spotted by a model agency right about the time her very much model quality sister Ava is diagnosed with cancer it's all Ted can do to make Ava happy. Really interesting book and look into the model world. A great read for Model want to be's out there.

Blotober Day 10: House Of Night

I've only gone and done it again, addicted to another vampire book series. This time called The House Of Night books by P.C and Kristin Cast a mother and daughter duo who rule the Y.A, vampire books. I came across this amazing series by randomly picking the first book up in the library and although I am only on the fourth book I've got to start preaching for this series.

Why must books torture us, when we need to go to bed and its just 'one more chapter' and then BAM something unexpected happens and you have to keep going till next thing you know its 3am and your two chapters away from finishing the book. That's what this series is all about, keeping you on the edge of your seat, glued to the book until you've finished (and then start the next one in line).
To give a brief idea of the story without giving away too much I will channel my inner HON writer and like the titles give just one word.
Vampires. (obvs). Fledgling. School. 'Friends'. Dark.  Mark. Crescent. Nyx. Cherokee. Starbucks.

Okay that was harder then I thought but those of you who have read this series will hopefully understand why I choose those words, and those of you who haven't will hopefully be enticed to find out what in the world I'm talking about.

There is twelve in the series SO FAR <--- yes I'm excited and also there has been word about a movie adaption coming out in 2015 which will be a huge hit.

Just Get Me to Morganville

Okay so everyone who knows me knows I talk about The Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine about a hundred times a day, so I thought I might as well do a little post on them because everyone needs to know how freaking amazing this books are. Years ago I got the first book  Glass Houses free in a magazine and never pasted much heed of it then one day I decided to read it and boy am I glad I did, TMVS is actually hard to put into words how good it is. Its not like a scary vampires rolling through the night attacking people kind of book, don't get me wrong that does happen but it is also a deep story where you fall in love with characters and also have a deep full hate for others *cough Brandon cough*. From the moment I finished the first book I searched everywhere for the next ones and found them in the Library which was great at first but I probably freaked out the Liberian by how much I took out the same books so after saving I got the whole collection (fifteen) on amazon, which I started straight away tucking into and spent hours on end reading them which I loved because I didn't have to wait to see what happens I just picked up the next book. That's the thing about this series you can not put them down I spent nights up in the dark with a torch (probably not a good idea, being vampires and all) because each time I got to a new chapter I couldn't wait I had to read on always saying "just one more chapter" ending up "Might as well finish the book". So without spoiling the series, because I know your gonna have to go and read them now life isn't accomplished unless you have read this series, I will tell you the basics. Clare Danvers your typical, hate to use it 'science nerd'  is so far advance in the school department that she goes to college at just sixteen. Being sixteen her parents don't allow her to go to one of the big colleges in the city so it is settled she goes to Texas Prairie University in Morganville (basically a crap school before you even mention vampires). After getting beat up by self appointed Queen of Morganville Monica and her back up wannabes Gina and Jenifer, Claire decides to move off campus and finds the residents of the Glass House Michel (Glass), Eve and Shane all high school friends looking for a roommate. Eventually its decided Claire is part of the Glass House family and that is one thing I love about this series she fits in so well and its hard to think how the others life's would have played out if she hadn't been a part of it.  I know what your thinking what could possible happen to have taken fifteen books to finish the series but we haven't even introduced the best part yet. The town is run by vampires. Actually correction the town was created and built for and by the vampires and only exists to accommodate the vampires. Why have a college and a busy community in a place full of vampires?? well they do need food. Of course though the vampires aren't greedy people, the Morganville residents are what the vampires like to call it 'Protected'. Each person or family is assigned to a vampire and given protection against being hunted. Oh no that doesn't mean they don't give blood or taxes as its called in Morganville. Yup in Morganville you pay your taxes by giving blood every so often. So that's it then you all caught up, but your probably wondering what it is that has me so hooked on these books. Well its Rachel Caines amazing way of creating the MV world, that and the fact that each book has a new and well dreadful adventure for the Glass household to overcome. Weathers its Ameile (founder of Morganville), Bishop (Amelie's father) or the Draug (something the vampires aren't quite fond off), Claire and the gang have to work together.. that or be dead.
